The Fairfield Avenue School of Fencing is dedicated to training fencers in a supportive and respectful surrounding.

We encourage our students to achieve the highest level of success that they desire.

We aid our fencers in defining and redefining their goals during their evolution.

We believe that a good fencing club's duty, among others, is to provide a challenging athletic atmosphere in a physically and emotionally safe environment.

We're not just teaching fencing. We are teaching sportsmanship, caring, problem solving, stress management, the development of intuition and self esteem.

All equipment is supplied free. Call us to schedule a private lesson or just drop in for our Junior Program.

Canine 'social worker' gives strays a second chance

From The Shreveport Times
By Alison Bath • August 23, 2009

They're mangy, dirty and diseased. They wander Shreveport's streets hungry, disoriented and desperate. They seldom draw even the briefest glance from passersby, and when they do get attention, it's usually from an irate home or business owner, who quickly shoos them away.

They often are viewed as the scourge of the city. Yet, they're Andy Shaw's best friends. (Click to read the full article )

My name is Noam Platt. I am currently a student at Louisiana State University, studying architecture, doing internships and working towards graduation. I started fencing with Andy Shaw in the 7th grade at Southfield School along with many of my friends.

what fencing has done for me:
When a duel occurs, and you look the other person in the eye right before the referee yells "fence!" you discover something about yourself. Your engagment in an age-old form of combat, even if its just for sport, lets you look inside your soul and discover who you really are, and what you can become. Fencing has given me physical and mental confidence to evaluate and take on life's many challenges. It has enabled me to compete at a national level at many tournaments, where countless relationships have been formed. I have gained friendship, trust, and maturity through studying the art of fencing.

Remembering Ben Pounds
BenPounds01small.jpg Fairfield Fencing's Ben Pounds lost his life in a traffic accident in 2008. Ben, who had been working at Libby Glass, was a saber fencer who was instrumental in digitizing a significant portion of the archives for the Museum of American Fencing.   His kindness and generosity will always be with us.
